Antoni Rossich says that the agreement with Intel goes beyond sponsorship: "This is an association of values"

Antoni Rossich explained the meaning of ‘More than a Club’ at the Intel stand at the Mobile World Congress, and he talked about the values that are behind the slogan - hard work, team work, humility, respect and ambition - and how they relate to the deal with the North American technology giant. “This agreement is not just an association of brands, it’s an association of values,” said the FC Barcelona director general.

Rossich explained that these values have helped Barça become more global and that the Club, according to some estimates, have the most fans throughout the world - approximately 350 million -, and are the team with the most online followers, with more than 100 million.

    Technological improvements

Among the deliverables derived from the agreement with Intel, both Rossich and Westendorf pointed to the fact that La Masía will now be provided with the latest technology, which will benefit the development of its residents both academically and personally.

Another major point in this agreement with Intel is supplying the stadium with the latest technology, which will improve the experience of the fans at the Camp Nou.

Vista aèria de la proposta del Nou Espai Barça
The salient and most important points of FC Barcelona's new Espai Barça project

The future of the new Espai Barça, or Barça Space, hinges on the referendum scheduled for April 5 of this year. In order to facilitate information regarding the project for voting members, the Board of Directors has established a Consultant Committee, composed of five FC Barcelona Club members selected by lottery, and set an intensive informational tour with 40 meetings inside the span of 30 days.

    What is Espai Barça?

The Espai Barça project goes well beyond the reconstruction and remodeling of the Camp Nou. In addition to increasing the capacity of the current stadium to 105,000 and completely remodeling the current structure of the Camp Nou, the Espai Barça project entails building a new Palau Blaugrana with a capacity of 12,000, an additional court with a capacity of 2,000, an ice rink, a new Social Area, a new Commercial Area, revamped Club offices, La Masía and adding 5,000 parking spaces.

Here’s a conceptual visualisation of what the new Espai Barça will look like.

The cost of the Espai Barça

The project is certainly ambitious but in equal measure it is financially viable and realistically achievable. According to Javier Faus, FC Barcelona Economic Vice-President, the project to remodel the Camp Nou will cost no more than 400 million euros. As a whole the project will “be the most important sports project in Europe and the world. No city can boast a project like ours.”  The overall cost of the entirety of the project is estimated to be approximately 600 million euros.

It’s important to note that the Espai Barça project will not, according to Faus, “put the Club’s professional teams at risk.” Additionally, the project will not force a cost increase in season tickets for Club members.

The Economic Vice-President added that the name of the stadium may very well have a surname attached to the legendary Camp Nou moniker. “We will never lose our name, the Camp Nou, but the Board of Directors will have to select the best offer,” said Faus in regards to the possibility of acquiring an additional 150 million euros for Club coffers if the decision is approved by the Assembly on April 5.

    Espai Barça timeframe

In order for the members to be quite sure on what they are voting for when the referendum comes around, the Club will go to an extraordinary effort to inform the fans about the proposed new Espai Barça project. Faus also insisted that this is just a proposal rather than a definitive project, and if members voice their approval, plans will need to be fine-tuned. There will be conversations with local residents and then the project will be submitted for international tender. Once the architect has been selected, work will be able to commence in 2017 and should end in 2021.

In conclusion, the Espai Barca project will only go forward with the approval of voting members in the General Assembly, which is scheduled to convene on 5 April. The Club will facilitate any and all information regarding the financial burden to the Club and the projected benefits that derive from the Espai Barça project. The Club is committed to holding more than 40 informational meetings in the span of 30 days regarding the project. In addition to the meet-and-greet sessions, Espai Barça information will be posted with regularity on fcbarcelona.com.

President Bartomeu launches the information campaign for the New Espai Barça, which will run through to April 3 "This is the starting point of the referendum process. This proposal is centered on a comprehensive facelift of the Stadium, and a new Palau” explained the President. “The project is financeable. We will not be saddling a generation of Barça members with big debt payments” -Javier Faus

The permanent exhibition space of the New Espai Barça project was presented at the Camp Nou this Wednesday. The exhibition will be open to all members and supporters until April 3. Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu explained that "this is the starting point of the referendum process. This proposal is centered on a comprehensive facelift of the Stadium, and the new Palau. This will position Barca as the best club in the world in terms of facilities. It is a significant investment and we are confident of our ability to finance it. "

    Upgrade needed

The New Espai Barça whose centrepiece will be the upgraded stadium, will alleviate current deficiencies which for example mean the Camp Nou cannot host a Champions League final. “The Camp Nou has evolved over the years, but UEFA are very demanding. We have identified areas where we can improve and we want the Camp Nou to be the best stadium of the twenty-first century”, explained Club Vice President, Jordi Cardoner.

    Economically viable

Regarding the financing of the project, Javier Faus , Vice-President with responsibility for the Economic Area made it clear that: "the project will at no point compromise the excellence of our Club’s sporting policy" and added that "the project is financeable. We will not be saddling a generation of Barça members with big debt payments. A third of the project  - 200 million Euros – will be covered by sponsored and the rest will come from our own assets and a syndicated loan”.

In addition, Faus made it clear that the club "will have no bank debt after 2015 " and explained that therefore, they can borrow again , "it’s not as if we are re-inventing the wheel, but the fact that we owe nothing means we can take on new debt. This is a great project and a qualitative leap for the Club."

Membership number and password key which appear on the 2014 membership card will be required to make the application. Child members are excluded from this application process.

Possible draw for tickets on March 19

All applications will be processed at the end of the established period. If there are more applications than tickets available, at 10.00 am CET on Wednesday March 19 a draw will be held at the Club in the presence of a notary between all applicant members. On 19, 20 and 21 March, the club will contact the lucky members, charge for the tickets and inform them of how to go about collecting them.

    Credit card needed

Applications will be considered as a definite intention to purchase and at the moment that the application is made, you will be required to introduce credit card information. Should the application be accepted – either directly or as a result of the draw – your card will automatically and immediately charged 45 Euros. The difference between this amount and the final price to be paid after your ticket has been selected must be paid at the ticket offices when you pick up the tickets. Ticket collection will be in the order of the winners in the draw.

    Prices from 45 Euros

Tickets for the Spanish Cup Final in Mestalla (Valencia) will be on sale from 45 Euros. If a joint application is made, you only need to give details of a single credit card, which will be charged the full amount of the reservation fees. If the payment can’t be made for any reason, the right to buy a ticket will be lost.

85% of tickets for Club Members

In line with the agreement made with the Federación Española de Fútbol, the Club will have 19,350 tickets to distribute, with the rest being distributed by the Federation. As usual, 85% of these tickets will be made available to club members (16,448) and supporters clubs (3, 289), with the rest (2,903) going to sponsors and institutional and sporting commitments made by the club.

On occasion of the 25th anniversary of the launch of the first episode of the “The Simpsons”, the FOX network has negotiated agreements with major companies and personalities in different sectors The first four players to receive this treatment are Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Neymar Fox picked FC Barcelona because it is one of the most beloved teams in sports today

FC Barcelona and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have unveiled the “Simpsonized” versions of Messi, Neymar, Xavi and Iniesta as part of a first-of-its-kind campaign featuring a collaboration between the US based company and the football club. FC Barcelona will co-create a broad line of branded merchandise that will be available to consumers in 2014.

On occasion of the 25th anniversary of the launch of the first episode of the “The Simpsons”, the FOX network has negotiated agreements with major companies and personalities in different sectors. Fox picked FC Barcelona because it is one of the most beloved teams in sports today. The agreement, which last until 2015, involves the two entities working together to create a broad range of merchandised products, with two highly differentiated focuses.

The first involves “Simpsonizing” members of the first team. The first four players to receive this treatment are Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Neymar, although there will eventually be ten in all, the identity of whom will be revealed shortly.

The other focus is on dressing popular characters from the series in Barça uniforms. It is important to note that the “Simpsonized” players will only be used for merchandising purposes – there are no plans for them to actually appear in the TV series. In addition to FC Barcelona, other clubs involved in similar projects are Chelsea, Juventus, Boca Juniors, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Corinthians and Porto. Additional teams are expected to be announced over the forthcoming months.

    The Simpsons

“The Simpsons” is the longest running scripted TV show in the United States. It has won 28 Emmy Awards and was named ‘Best Show of the 20th Century’ by Time magazine. It was a cultural phenomenon in the 1990s and has continued to be one of the most highly appraised and innovative TV shows in the world. Its 25th season is currently showing, and the 26th is already in production.

Sr Faus also revealed that income from marketing, including shirt sponsorship, had risen nearly 50 % since 2010: “Barça have never had so much income from marketing as we have today”.

FC Barcelona has reached agreement with Maurice Lacroix for the Swiss watchmaker to become an Official Club Sponsor for the next three years. The deal means that the two organisations will work together to bring the exclusive watches to football fans and lovers of the prestigious brand.

The deal was presented this Thursday in the Ricard Maxenchs press room at the Camp Nou by Club vice-president Javier Faus and the managing director of Maurice Lacroix, Marc Gläser.  Coinciding with the league game against Almeria, the deal had been launched by President Josep Maria Bartomeu, who declared . Gläser replied The Maurice Lacroix company is proud and enthusiastic about this exceptional deal. Our brands have the same desire for perfection and together we will create an impressive, powerful and successful team”.

    Faus explains reasons for deal

Javier Faus explained the reasons behind the Club’s decision to join up with  Lacroix “We have chosen Maurice Lacroix for their international image, their position in the Asian market, how they activate their partnerships in a digital fashion and because it is a brand which is entering the world of sport through its quality and excellence”. For his part, Gläser explained: també ha comentat què ha triat associar-se amb el FC Barcelona " We chose FC Barcelona because we share many values. As a Swiss company, we value the democratic way of doing things at the Club”.

The Club and Maurice Lacroix wish to be close to their admirers, speak the same language and present a high quality, prestigious Swiss product. The agreement means that an exclusively designed and accessible watch will be on sale at the FC Barcelona shops and the official Maurice Lacroix sales points.

The deal will also be reflected at the Camp Nou, where a wide range of publicity media will be present, including the fourth official’s LED sign and exclusive presence in the VIP zones.

Both institutions share values and will form a great team for investigating new ways of reaching fans of great football and high quality watches.

The reality TV show Go, Brazil, Goal filmed at the Camp Nou and the FC Barcelona Museum this week

The Camp Nou and the FC Barcelona Museum were the two sites selected by the Chinese television channel CCTV to tape the reality show Go, Brazil, Goal. The program focuses on the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Go, Brazil, Goal is a contest with 16 participants broken up into teams of two, each team competes in four different routes (Spain-Portugal route, Netherlands-Germany-Belgium route, England route and Italy route). The four team to qualify will be awarded a trip to the World Cup. Barcelona is one of the locations of the Spain-Portugal route.

    Looking for the World Cup

The participants competed this Thursday at the FC Barcelona Museum. The challenge was to find the right Barça players that won the World Cup in South Africa – they appear in different parts of the Museum.

    Exciting experience

The participants then enjoyed the Camp Nou Experience, and they got to watch the Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Manchester City.

“We selected FC Barcelona for our program because it’s one of the most loved clubs in China. The culture and atmosphere in the stadium is incredible. We were very surprised to see so many tourists during the Camp Nou Experience. It was a minor inconvenience for our show having so many tourists around, but that’s just a testament to how popular the club is throughout the world,” said show representative Frog Yuan.

The participants also visited a flamenco school, a tapas bar, the Olympic Park in Montjuïc and they took part in cultural and social events related to Catalan culture. The program Go, Brazil, Goal will air in April and June on CCTV’s sports channel.

Arroyo explains that the response from Club members has been very positive to the proposal

More than 20,000 people have seen the Espai Barça proposal at the exposition at Club facilities (17,809), itinerant expositions (1,915) and different informative sessions with Club members (1,089).

The general response to the proposal has been very positive according to vice-president Jordi Caroner i Casaus and the director responsible for patrimony, Jordi Moix. “We’re satisfied with how the informational campaign is going. There’s a lot of interest. The members want to know the details of the project. What we’ve noticed most is how excited this makes them,” said vice-president Manuel Arroyo on Monday.

    Martino and Messi

Arroyo also emphatically and categorically denied the rumors that Tata Martino has decided to leave the Club at the end of the season: “We have no knowledge [of this decision]. Martino has a contract with the Cub. We’ve talked to him and he strongly denied that he talked to anyone on his coaching staff about the issue. He’s focused on the challenges that the team have at the moment. It’s a very important week and the focus [at the Club] clear.”

Lastly, Arroyo reiterated that the Board will do everything in its power to keep Messi at Barça for the rest of his career: “He’s the best player in the world and he has more records to break. At this moment there’s absolutely no way he will leave. His intention and ours is for him to finish his career here. Bartomeu and the player’s father have started talking about the issue.”
