Jordi Cardoner reports big progress in the Social Area

Cardoner spoke to the press today. PHOTO: VÍCTOR SALGADO - FCB
The FC Barcelona vice-president has revealed that the club's membership now stands at 153,458 39,477 of those are women, the highest amount in club history Cardoner also revrealed that the budget for the amateur sections will be increased by 10%

Children's Passport goes down well

All child members under eight years of age now have the right to order a Children’s Passport, which permits them free entry to the ground and identifies them as a special group of major relevance to the club. A total of 5,068 applications have been made via the website or using a special mobile app.

Jordi Cardoner has reviewed the 2013/14 season in terms of the Social Area, which deals with the members and fans. Greater participation, accessibility, solidarity, services and proximity are highlighted as the main focus areas.

Cardoner feels all these aspects are of shared importance, but there are three items that he wished to stress above the rest: the Membership Census, the Reformed Statutes and the Referendum on the new-look Camp Nou. The first was designed to gain more insight into the club’s members and its supporters clubs, which will help to adapt procedures to their most pressing needs. He announced that the club membership currently stands at 153,458, although 13,848 of those have not yet returned their census forms, as well as 152,004 supporters club members, meaning the club in total consists of a remarkable 304,025 people.

“One of the most impressive things is that we have 39,477 female members, the highest amount in club history” he revealed.

As for the reform of the club statutes, which was approved by 76% majority at the 2013 Assembly, Cardoner explained that the main purpose behind the modifications were to give the members greater control over the club and more opportunities to participate in important decision-making. This should help to ensure greater financial and social stability for the club in the future. And the third major matter was the Referendum on the new look stadium, a plan that was accepted by more than 72% of the members. This means that the new-look Camp Nou will be much better adapted to the needs of a modern venue, and will also involve the construction of a brand new basketball arena and several other projects.

Investment in amateur sport

[[DES_1]]The Social Area will, from now on, also be dealing with the club’s amateur sports sections. “One of our main objectives is to promote these sections in order for Barça members to have more opportunities to play these sports” explained Cardoner, and he was pleased to announce that the budget for these departments will be increased by 10% this season. The club currently has about 1,000 athletes in the 9 different amateur sections, namely men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, field hockey, rugby union, athletics, figure skating, ice hockey, women’s basketball and wheelchair basketball.

Cardoner is also delighted that the club website has been awarded the ‘double A’ international accessibility certificate in recognition of how it has been adapted for people with different disabilities. And he also mentioned the success of the T’Acompanyem (‘We’ll take you there’) project organised in conjunction with the Red Cross on match days at the stadium, the improvements and adaptations to the Camp Nou and the 90% satisfaction rate among members with regard to the services offered by the club.

Supporters clubs on the rise

The Penyes S. XXI project is still making good progress, which is seeking to promote the ‘penyes’ (supporters clubs) brand and make it more self-managing. The old system of advisory councils has been dropped in favour of regional federations, and according to Jordi Cardoner, this has led to better communication between them and a greater sense of belonging.

A total of 1,267 official supporters clubs have been accounted for in the census, 619 in the Catalan speaking regions, 560 elsewhere in Spain, and 88 in the rest of the world. These clubs have a combined total of 152,004 members, of whom 15,345 also have FC Barcelona membership cards. Cardoner also announced that a special effort will be put into the ‘Socis fem Penya’ project to encourage its members to also join their local supporters clubs and thus help to increase the bond between these two major groups of Barça followers.

FC Barcelona director general Antoni Rossich, acting as the Club’s legal representative, has presented a statement to the Spanish National Court (Audiencia Nacional) concerning the transfer of Neymar

FC Barcelona director general Antoni Rossich, acting as the Club’s legal representative, has presented a statement to the Spanish National Court (Audiencia Nacional) concerning the transfer of Neymar Júnior.

Former FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and a representative of the Club’s auditors, Deloitte, also made declarations in court today.

The FC Barcelona director general, in his testimony before Judge Pablo Ruz, agreed with a previous statement by former president Rosell, that the contract had been correctly drawn up and that there were no tax related motivations, denying any form of contractual manipulation or simulation.

Both the FC Barcelona director general and former Club president Sandro Rosell also confirmed that neither the Club’s vice-president for sport, nor the economic vice-president took any part in the transfer negotiations or in the drawing up of the details of the contract. They both agreed that because of the singular circumstances of the transfer and the exceptional interest in the player shown by other clubs, FC Barcelona needed to act with the maximum discretion and confidentiality.

FC Barcelona confidently expect all of these declarations to help to clarify the fact that the club acted correctly at all moments throughout the transfer process.

Joseph Jackson celebrated his 86th birthday this Saturday morning by exploring FC Barcelona’s past and present in the club museum “I like football. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than being with football people, with the great players” he said

Joseph Walter Jackson, father of the late Michael Jackson and creator of the Jackson Five was at the club this Saturday morning to enjoy the Camp Nou Experience along with Simon Sahouri, president of the Michael Jackson Foundation, and other guests.

He arrived at the Camp Nou at 10.30 am, and spent the next two hours enjoying the tour and museum, thus getting to learn more about FC Barcelona’s 115 year history. He posed for pictures with the club’s four European Cups, the four Ballon d’Or trophies recently won by Leo Messi, and other articles, as well as getting to walk on the Camp Nou turf. [[CITA_1]]

Michael Jackson himself once performed in the same venue, on August 9, 1988 as part of the Bad World Tour and watched by 110,000 people. His father said today that “this is my first visit. I was excited about coming to this big stadium. It’s so, so big. I liked everything I saw” he told Barça TV and fcbarcelona.com. “I like football. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than being with football people, with the great players”.

“At FC Barcelona, the players go to school and learn to be good players. Other clubs don’t so that. These players remind me of my boys in the Jackson Five. When they were onstage and working together, they put on a good show. And it’s the same with these players, when they all work together you can’t beat them.”

He added that "when I saw Neymar get hurt on TV, I said 'he's really hurt'. But I'm so glad that he's getting better. That's what I hear, he's getting better."

After being led out onto the pitch, Mr Jackson took a selfie as part of the photo competition being held at the moment, whereby fans can post their pictures on Instagram using the hashtag #campnouexperience.[[CITA_2]]Joseph Walter Jackson, who is 86 today, was also able to spend some time in the Camp Nou Lounge, where visitors up until the end of August can enjoy top quality cuisine while taking in the spectacular views from the first tier of the grandstand.

There was plenty of excitement among the tourists on the Camp Nou Experience when they discovered that they were being joined by such a very special guest.

The club expressed its gratitude for Mr Jackson’s visit by presenting him with a shirt with his surname printed on the back and invited him to come and watch the first team playing in an official home fixture.

FC Barcelona closed the 2013/14 season with a club record income of 530 million euros, the first time ever that the end-of-year figure has exceeded 500 million, as revealed today by economic vice-president Javier Faus at a press conference in the Ricard Maxenchs Pressroom. He also explained that net profits this year amounted to 41 million euros, a figure previously only topped by the 49 million euros in the 2011/12 season, and that in the four seasons since 2010/11, when the new Board came into power, the club has an accumulated profit of 113 million euros. Never before has the club generated such a profit over four consecutive years, which averages out at 35 million euros a year.

The 2013/14 season also witnessed a reduction in the net debt by 44 million euros, meaning that since the new Board took over, this figure has decreased by 143 million, and as of June 30 of this year now stands at 287 million euros, while four years ago it was 431 million.

Javier Faus stressed that the unprecedented commercial and sponsorship deals involving FC Barcelona have been the driving force behind such positive changes. “We are much stronger and we feel we have a greater presence around the world than we did four years ago”, he said, going on to explain that the club is particularly interested in Brazil and Russia as potential strategic targets, being two major countries where it has no partner. Faus added that Leo Messi could be used to approach the Russian market, while Neymar Jr will be a useful vehicle for getting into Brazil.

And the audits for the last four years have all been clean, without exceptions. “We want the accounts that delegates see to be a faithful reflection of the club’s assets” said Faus. “That is a sign of the financial transparency that we want from the club”.

He also commented that the closure of last season was the first since the entry in force of article 67 of the Statutes as approved at the last Assembly, and which has been satisfied due to the year ending with a profit and the club having a good Debt / EBITDA ratio.

Another point he wished to stress was how the club has progressed from its own funds being 62 million euros negative (on June 30, 2010) to 50 million positive. “We used to have more debts than assets, and we have managed to turn things around to achieve the own funds that the club deserves” he said.

Faus was also keen to highlight that in the last four years, FC Barcelona has risen from 24th to 2nd in the Forbes ranking of the most valuable clubs. “We have grown more than any other club in the world” he observed. “And we are the only club with so much potential to improve our contracts, and that will help to reinforce our global presence.”
