FC Barcelona dominated Google searches during the weekend of the June 6th Final in Berlin.
Barça dominates worldwide Google searches during the UEFA Champions League Final Over the weekend, the Club’s social networks gain more than 650,000 new followers

FC Barcelona’s historic treble this season, culminating with the Champions League Final in Berlin, has reaffirmed the Club’s dominance in the digital realm, where it has accumulated over 180 million followers. Just on the weekend of the Final, more than 650,000 new followers signed up the Club’s 41 official social media accounts, while various search engines and social networks have helped turn Barça into a global trend.

As reported by Google, during the Final FC Barcelona dominated game-related web searches nearly everywhere on the planet. The map generated by the search giant shows a blue and maroon-covered globe, while Juventus only triumphed in a handful of European countries — Italy, France, Switzerland, Finland — and Chile, the home country of the team’s star Arturo Vidal.

The massive following on any of the Club’s nine language-specific websites and its dozens of social media accounts kept everyone, everywhere, completely up to date with all the latest Barça news from the German capital. On 6 June, the number of unique users who visited the FC Barcelona website quadrupled the 2014/15 season average, while the number of downloads of the Club’s official app increased threefold. In addition to the big three — Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — the club strengthened it’s story in real-time with the six-seconds videos of Vine and the experience of Periscope, a social network that allowed the players’ post-game celebration on the Olympiastadion grass to be covered live.

Astronomical numbers

More than 28 million unique users followed the day of the Final on FC Barcelona’s Facebook page. In fact, the Facebook post of the video of Xavi lifting the Cup was seen by over 43 million people and the video itself was played more than 7.6 million times, thus becoming the most widely disseminated publication in the history of FC Barcelona.

Equally successful was the Club’s activity on Instagram. During the day of the Juventus–Barcelona clash, the Club posted a total of 24 images, which accumulated almost 11 million likes. In addition, throughout the weekend Barça’s Instagram account attracted more than 350,000 new followers.

As for Twitter, the more than 1,400 posts related to the Final in the Club’s eight official accounts generated around 76 million impressions. The same dramatic impact occurred on FC Barcelona’s YouTube channel, which had its second biggest day since it was launched in 2006 with a total of 2,331,484 views. That’s more than 3 million minutes of video consumption.

A mesmerising performance in which contemporary dance is juxtaposed with the movements of FC Barcelona footballers

This video shows highlights of the 'Foot-ball' dance project staged by choreographer Cesc Gelabert, and inspired by the sport and especially the way in which the FC Barcelona first team moves on the field. The how appeared at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TNC) last January and involved projections of images of the Barça players juxtaposed with the dancers’ own movements on stage. The idea was to show how remarkably similar football and dance can be through this surprising combination of movement and emotion.

Manel Vich: The Voice of Barça

Manel Vich, speaker of Camp Nou
A new short film by Johan Kramer looks at the life of Camp Nou's long-time public address announcer

For the last 59 years, Manel Vich has been the public address announcer for FC Barcelona and, coinciding with his presence at the Champions League Final in Berlin, a short Johan Kramer documentary about him, ‘La Veu del Barça’, was released.

Vich began as an announcer at the Les Corts ground in 1956, a few months before the new stadium was opened, since then, Vich has missed just three games - because of an operation and then the marriage of his daughter.

A Museum at home

After more than half a century at the Club, Manel Vich's house is a veritable museum, full of souvenirs from those times and he explains in the film: “I've got lots of shirts, scarves and photos, but if I'd known I was going to be here that long and started collected things, I think I'd have a museum to match the Club's own at the moment".  Now 77, Vich insists he'll be staying on as Club announcer for as long as he's needed, but as soon as he's finished he'll be taking up his seat at the stadium - Vich has been a member and season ticket holder for all that time, paying his dues despite the fact that he's never yet been able to watch a game from his seat.

Johan Kramer is a Dutch photographer and film maker who has made a number of films about the Club, including  ‘0,08%’, about  a blind child who is crazy for Barça, or ‘Charly’, about ex-player and coach Carles Rexach, and ‘Johan Primero’ about a superstitious fan who religiously goes around the stadium 50 times a day in his blaugrana car.

The Museum has received 1.6 million visits this year / FCB
The new space dedicated to the second treble at the Museum was a great success in June with 176,148 visitors, a rise of 23% which consolidates its place as the most visited in Catalonia The Museum also ends the season with a record 26m € net takings

Buying tickets

Buying tickets could not be easier and can be done via www.fcbarcelona.com through any type of mobile device so as to avoid the inevitable queues during the busiest time fo the year for the Camp Nou Experience. Tickets can also be bought at the ticket offices at Camp Nou and tourist offices in the city itself such as those found at Plaça Catalunya, Plaça Colom, the Sagrada Familia and Plaça Espanya

The Camp Nou Experience at this time of the year is at its busiest. During the month of June 176, 948 visitors passed through the FC Barcelona Museum, representing an increase of 23% with regards to the same month last year. That figure means that the season 2014/15 ends with a total of 1,628,418 visitors, an 8% increase on last season and it consolidates the musuem’s place as the most visited in Catalonia.

Furthermore, the Camp Nou Experince has become a great economic boost for the Club this season with net takings of 26,790,527 Euros, a 9% increase on last season.

At the start of June a new space dedicated to the Club’s second treble was unveiled at the museum and up to now it has been a great success. The area for the treble is the latest development at the museum and has been one of the principal attractions of the summer. In this part of the museum the three trophies won can be seen (Spanish Cup, League and Champions League) from the season 2014/15 as well as Xavi’s shirt that the former Barça player wore on his last appearance at Camp Nou and the ball from the Spanish Cup final.

This season the FC Barcelona Museum has celebrated its 30th anniversary, beginning with a commemorative t-shirt that was produced and worn by the players on 27 September for the league game between Barça and Granada. During the season there have been various events to commemorate the date such as the opening of the ‘Suñol Space’ on the museum’s first floor and the tribute to former player Luis Súarez and his Ballon d’Or win in 1960.

Campaign and Instagram contest

The Club is continuing to work hard to place Camp Nou Experience as a must see attraction for tourists visiting the city of Barcelona and from this July a campaign has been launched under the slogan ‘Travel to the heart of Barcelona’ to bring people to the museum. Barça offers to the fans who know the Club well the chance to share their experiences around the world via social media. To promote this fact, Barça have set up a photography competition with prizes for originality.

All the visitors to the Camp Nou Experience who take a photograph imitating their heroes and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #CAMPNOUEXPERIENCE have the chance to win a FC Barcelona shirt. There will be a prize every month in the competition for the photos with most ‘likes’ on Instagram. The winner will receive a Barça shirt.

Joy for Barça fans around the world displayed on social media following the win in Berlin which rounded off the perfect season

In Berlin and Barcelona it was 10.42pm; on the west coast of the United States, 1.42pm; in Colombia it was 3.42pm and in Indonesia it was 3.42am the following day. Just some examples of the time for an historic moment, the point in time when Neymar made it 3-1 to secure Barça’s win over Juventus in the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The victory that crowned the blaugranes as Champions of Europe rounded off a perfect season that gave the Club their second treble in their history. Around the world the event happened at a different time but the joy was the same. The delight at the victory exploded on social media all around the globe. The most fitting image was that of captain Xavi Hernández lifting the trophy.

The passion and feeling for Barça is something that fans share from all four corners of the planet. Barça fans are used to celebrating trophies over the last few years but a treble is always something special. The blaugranes are the first team in the world to have achieved this feat on two separate occasions. For that reason, fans around the world had a more than justified reason for showing their love for the Club with Barça claiming their first Champions League title. In the video above we can see how the fans around the world celebrated this latest historical achievement.

Barça and Turkey, a sporting, social and commercial relationship

FC Barcelona and Turkey have strong links / FCB
The keeper Rustu and the basketball player Ilyasova are the only previous Turks at FC Barcelona Commerical links with Turkey have been established thanks to agreement with Club sponsors Beko and Lassa Tyres

It has been 12 years since a Turkish player pulled on an FC Barcelona shirt. Arda Turan will be the second player from that country to tread the turf at Camp Nou for Barça after goalkeeper Rustu Reçber. Even though only two players have played for the blaugrana first team, Barça have a considerable presence in Turkey and a more than considerable following.

Rustu was signed in the summer of 2003 after having shined the previous summer in the Japan and South Korea World Cup in a Turkey side that finished the tournament in third place. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper’s spell at Camp Nou was a short one. He made his official debut in the Copa Catalunya during a 4-0 win over Girona.

However, a young Victor Valdés ousted him from the first team and Rustu left for Fenerbahçe at the end of the 2004/05 season. In his two full seasons as a blaugrana he made 23 appearances.

Ilyasova at the Palau

Away from football, another Barça team has had a Turkish player in their squad. Ersan Ilyasova was signed in the summer of 2007 for a blaugrana team coached by Dusko Ivanovic. At just 20 years of age, the power forward arrived in Barcelona from NBA side Milwaukee Bucks. With the arrival of Xavi Pascual as coach in mid-season, Ilyaosva became a key part of the team, ending the campaign with an average of 6.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Commercial agreement with Beko and Lassa Tyres

The relationship between Barça and Turkey is extense and long established with Barça being one of the best supported teams in the country. In the commercial area, the Turkish white goods brand Beko is one of the Club’s global sponsors and the firm’s logo can be seen on the football team’s shirtsleeves for the next three seasons.

Furthermore, this season, the Club and Lassa Tyres have signed a global sponsorship agreement, with the company becoming the main sponsor of the professional sections and at the same time a official Club partner in the area of football for the next four years.

Turkey is one of the countries in the world with most Barça fans. If we look at social media we can see that the FC Barcelona official page on Facebook has 2.3m fans with Turkey seventh in the ranking. Istanbul boasts 534,000 Barça fans and is ninth on the list of cities with most blaugrana followers on Facebook. On the world’s biggest social network, Turkish is the seventh most used language.

Social media is an excellent way to bring the Club closer to its Turkish fans and now in Arda they will have a local figure to focus in the squad of the current European Champions.
