For the first time in its history, FC Barcelona will be wearing an away kit based on the red and yellow of the Catalan flag – the ‘senyera’. The shirt has a round neck, with red markings and echoes the design of the first team kit, bit with red and yellow striopes and with the stripes petering out on the sleeves. The Club motto - ‘Més que un Club- appears on the back of the collar.

Red shorts

The away strip shorts are red with a thin yellow line down either side, like the sock, which include a red line around the top and with a similar effect below that to the shirt design.

Both the first team and away kits have a more athletic and dynamic fit thanks to the innovative programme led by Nike of scanning the bodies of some of the world’s best players to produce a design better fitted to their anatomy.

The first team kit for 2012/13 will include the traditional blue and claret stripes in a modern design which sees the stipes peter off on the sleeves. The away kit is based on the Catalan “senyera” flag.

The new shirt features the senyera on the yellow collar . the flag is also for the first time ever completely integrated in the shirt – featuring on the back, inside and outside, as well as on the edges from side to side, The Club motto - ‘Més que un Club’. – also appears on the rear of the neck.

The shorts are blue, whilst the socks have a thin yellow line at the top and a modern design echoing the shirt sleeves below that.

Lighter than earlier versions

Nike kits continue to be manufactured using their revolutionary technique with recycled polyester - reflecting the company’s commitment to creating sporting goods which have as little harmful effect on the environment as possible. A set of shirt and shorts are manufactured using a maximum of 13 recycled plastic bottles.

The kits are made from material which means they weigh no more than 150 grams and are 23% lighter than previous Nike kits. They are also 20% stronger and are considerably more flexible. The materials used also have the Nike Dri.Fit technology which eliminates sweat and allows the player to stay cool and dry.

Nike has chosen the monument to the man who discovered the Americas, located between the Ramblas and Barcelona Port, as the launch point for the new FC Barcelona uniforms. The first and second team kits for the 2013/14 season were revealed on Tuesday.

The image of Columbus wearing the new shirt clearly had an impact on people passing by one of the busiest places in the whole city.

Catalunya Turisme Fans
On their six day trip to Catalonia, they all agreed that the Camp Nou Experience was one of the most unforgettable highlights The winners of the Catalunya Turisme competition visited the FC Barcelona facilities on Wednesday to enjoy the Camp Nou Experience, which they all described as unforgettably fantastic

The Chinese supporters loved the FC Barcelona museum. ¨It’s very big, you can see all the cups that the club has won in its 114 years, it made me proud to support Barça” said Wang Jun, a journalism student who won the chance to come on this trip. “I am working had on my speciality and languages. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to follow my team as a professional reporter.”

CAMP NOU EXPERIENCE

Although this is their first time in Barcelona, these fans were already well informed about the history of FC Barcelona thanks to the Chinese version of the website at www.fcbarcelona.cn and the sports media. “The museum is like a history book that tells us about the great moments in the club’s history and how it came to be so big” they said. They were particularly interested in the photo that explains why FCB fans came to be known as ¨culés¨ (meaning ‘bums’, because of the sight, from street level, of a row of bottoms sat along the top of the terraces). ¨It is very interesting to see these old pictures that tell us about so much history. I’d heard the anecdote about the name and this picture confirms it. Very interesting!” says Li Peihuang. ¨What I liked about the museum is where it explains about La Masía and things about the youth players. I work for a college magazine. I have interviewed a lot of young sportspeople and I’m very interested in finding about the training methods used at Barça, It means we can study the successful experience of such an internationally famous football academy” says Li.

Chen Feng works in human resources, and Ma Tingxiao is a 14 year old student, and both of them said they loved the opportunity to walk on the Camp Nou pitch. “The ground is incredible, it’s the biggest in Europe” they said. “When we see the field, we can imagine what it is like for the players to run around and score goals here.”

Now that their 6-day trip is over, the ‘star fans’ can go home with photos of such memories as the chance to touch the four Ballons d’Or won by Leo Messi: “When I get back to China, I’ll tell my Barça friends about this trip. I can tell them about Gaudí’s architecture, the atmosphere at the Camp Nou and how to make a potato omelette” says Wang Jun. “I hope to come back here one day and learn more about Catalan culture.”

The Club's website recorded an 184% increase of unique users this Sunday

Neymar 2.0

The new FC Barcelona player, who announced his decision to join the Blaugrana through a post on Instagram (where he is the most followed footballer on the planet with more than one million fans), confirms with his online following that he’s a global icon. He has 17.3 million fans combined on the following websites:Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.

The news of Neymar da Silva joining FC Barcelona for five seasons made headlines around the world. The news was also a hit on social networks and specialised websites.

Record audience

FC Barcelona’s website exploded with traffic on Sunday after the deal with Santos FC was announced. More people visited Barça’s site on Sunday than on any other day this season. In fact, Sunday’s traffic numbers are only bested by when Barça won the Champions League against Manchester United and when the Blaugrana faced off against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. Unique visitors to Barça’s site increased by 184% on Sunday and page views - as far as content about Neymar goes - increased by 530%. The website is available in the following languages: Catalan, English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Arabic, Indonesian and Japanese.

Social media

On social media, FC Barcelona’s accounts also broke records on Sunday. The post on Facebook about Neymar’s signing received 116,000 likes, while on Twitter there were over 700,000 mentions of the Brazilian player after he announced his decision to come to Barcelona. In addition to Facebook and Twitter, Barça’s official Instagram account tripled in fans on Sunday.

Major interest in FC Barcelona and Catalonia in Salisbury

Vice president Carles Vilarrubí has given a conference on Barça, sport, culture and education at the prestigious arts festival in England Barça were invited after going down so well at similar events in Scotland and France

25 activities in England

Salisbury Festival attracts about 80,000 people a year. Barça’s appearance is just one of 25 activities on the Catalan part of the programme, which also includes traditional displays such as the opening concert by the Cobla de Sant Jordi and human towers by the Castellers de Vilafranca, plus more contemporary performances by the likes of the Roger Bernat and La Troba Kung-Fú companies, as well as a series of the latest Catalan language films.

[[DES_1]]

Catalonia has been invited to the 41st edition of the Salisbury International Arts Festival, traditionally the first of the season in the United Kingdom. It lasts for about a month and always dedicates a couple of weeks to another country. In the past, it has focused on such places as Russia, India, China and Brazil, and this year the chosen nation is Catalonia.

‘Barça: sport, culture and education’

The Institut Ramon Llull has been charged with overseeing this transfer of both traditional and contemporary Catalan culture to the British Isles, which includes dance, circus acts, cinema and conferences focused on the Catalan identity. It was within this context that the vice president of the FC Barcelona institutional area, Carles Vilarrubí, presented on Tuesday evening a conference titled ‘Barça: sport, culture and education’, on the bond between Barça and the Catalan identity, and the values and features that make the Club so unique.

His talk, which was followed by a question and answer session, was given in front of a full house of some 150 people, all of whom demonstrated an extraordinary knowledge of both football and Barça. As the FC director said, “it was a very heterogeneous audience, but they were united by an interest in Catalan culture and politics, as well as the peculiarities of Barça, from La Masia to the democratic way that the members govern the club’s affairs”.

Exceptionally matchless

Vilarrubí’s talk was similar to those he gave previously in Glasgow and the new Sorbonne on occasion of the team’s matches against Celtic and PSG and in accordance with the agreement between FC Barcelona and the Institut Ramon Llull to work together in the projection of Catalan culture abroad. “We were surprised by the success of the conferences at universities in Glasgow and France. Because of that, we have been invited to appear in other places”, said Vilarrubí to www.fcbarcelona.cat.

So, exceptionally and at no cost to the Club, the vice president accepted the invitation to attend the prestigious Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival despite it not coinciding with any first team match. And he considered both this and the year of work in conjunction with the Institut Ramon Llull to have been an extraordinary success. “It is highly satisfactory to parade the Club’s image and its links with the country around Europe” he commented.
