Sala París will be the venue for a testimonial event in honour of two legendary players, on occasion of the game between Barça and Mallorca

FC Barcelona and the Agrupació Barça Jugadors have organised an institutional event to honour two former players, Josep Seguer and Antoni Ramallets. It’s all going to happen on Saturday April 6 on occasion of the Liga game between FC Barcelona and RCD Mallorca at the Camp Nou.

Sala París will be the stage at 12.30 as the Barça president, Sandro Rosell, and the president of the Agrupació Barça Jugadors, Ramon Alfonseda, welcome the two very special guests. Both players will joined by relatives, former colleagues and several representatives of different social and institutional areas of FC Barcelona. The event will be presented by reporter Pere Escobar and the guests will include former FCB players Luis Suárez, Ferran Olivella, Salvador Sadurní, Josep Maria Fusté and Robert Fernández plus women’s footballer Carme Nieto.

First of many

Shortly before FC Barcelona and RCD Mallorca kick off their match, the president of FC Barcelona will be welcoming Antoni Ramallets and Josep Seguer into the presidential box. This is the first of what are hoped to be many similar initiatives to honour the players that have helped shape the history of FC Barcelona.

Antoni Ramallets

Born in Barcelona in 1924, he joined FC Barcelona from Europa. In 1949, an injury to regular keeper Velasco gave him his first opportunity to display his many qualities: speed, agility and an astute mind. He played through two of the club’s greatest periods, that of the Five Cups and the golden era under manager Helenio Herrera. He also featured in Spain’s first ever World Cup squad in Brazil in 1950, where he earned the moniker of the Maracanà Cat. In 1962 Barça entertained SV Hamburg in a testimonial in his honour, and he is now the most senior member of the Agrupació Barça Jugadors.

Josep Seguer

Born in Parets del Vallès in 1923, Josep Seguer spent his entire playing career at FC Barcelona. In 1940 he joined the amateur team and progressed to the first team in 1943, staying there for fourteen seasons. It was mainly as an inside midfielder that he participated in all of the club’s major conquests of the 1940s, although he was famed for his ability to fill in wherever required, and he was often seen playing at full back. His skill and strength made him one of the core members of the team that famously won five cups in one season, and after hanging up his boots he went into management in 1959. He was assistant manager to Salvador Artigas, who he replaced as head coach after he was sacked early in the 1969-70 season. In 1970, he became manager of Barça Atlètic.
