On Thursday 28th March, it’s the 80th anniversary of the birth of this illustrious jazz composer and pianist, and passionate Barça fan.
As part of the Barça Culture initiative, the Club is commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Tete Montoliu with a revival of a jazz version of the Barça Anthem played by the Ignasi Terraza Trio as a posthumous tribute in the Camp Nou.
Tete Montoliu, the virtuoso jazz pianist, would have been 80 this Thursday. A leading figure in the jazz world, he never lost an opportunity to proclaim another of his great passions, FC Barcelona. Although blind from birth, he never let this interfere with his enjoyment both of music and Barça.
On 27th March 1996, before the match against Tenerife, the then Barça president, Josep Lluís Núñez, awarded him the gold and diamond Club insignia in the Directors Box of the Camp Nou. Later, on 24th November 2007, the Club organised a posthumous tribute to Tete Montoliu coinciding with the 10th anniversary of his death. Before the match against Recreativo there was a concert on the pitch in which the Ignasi Terraza Trio -with Jordi Rossy and Dimitri Skidanov- interpreted a jazz version of the Barça Anthem.
